PRRD Shares 2026 Local Government Election Update

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has launched an interactive election tool to help residents prepare for the 2026 General Local Election on October 17, 2026.

Available at prrd.bc.ca/VST, the tool allows residents to enter their address to view:

• Electoral Area Director candidates (will be on the ballot if more than one candidate is running in each area)
• Proposed services they are eligible to vote on
• Voting locations, dates and times for stations in their electoral area and voting headquarters

The Vote Search Tool also links voters to dedicated referendum webpages featuring project information, FAQs and interactive tax calculators for residents to understand potential tax increases for the proposed new services, if the majority vote is yes.

General Voting Day is October 17, 2026, with Advance Voting opportunities on October 7 and October 14. Official election results will be declared on October 21.

Referendum Votes

Eligible electors in Electoral Areas C, D and E can vote on new proposed water service initiatives. If the majority vote is yes, the PRRD will be authorized to collect taxes and other funding to support activities such as water security partnerships, water licensing, planning and potential infrastructure development for long-term water service solutions.

Eligible electors in Golata Creek (Area B), Jackfish Lake (Area E) and Osborn (Area B) can also vote on proposed new rural community/recreational spaces. If the majority vote is yes, the PRRD will be authorized to collect taxes and other funding to develop new recreational and community gathering spaces in these locations.

"It is important that residents understand the voting opportunities available to them in this election." says Tyra Henderson, Chief Election Officer. "Depending on where you live, eligible electors will have the chance to vote on proposed new services and select their Electoral Area Directors in Areas D and E. The Peace River Regional District encourages everyone to make a plan to vote on October 17.”

Electoral Area Director Candidates Confirmed

The PRRD has received nominations for Electoral Area Director positions in the 2026 General Local Election. Confirmed candidates are:

• Electoral Area B: Reid Graham (Acclaimed – No Vote)
• Electoral Area C: Bradley Sperling – (Acclaimed – No Vote)
• Electoral Area D: Leonard Hiebert and Orval Harris
• Electoral Area E: Maureen Ethier, Julia Nelson, Richard Nicholls and Jason Young
