Tipping Fees and Coupons
Managing your waste in the Peace River Regional District is simple when you understand how regional disposal/tipping fees are calculated. Mandated by Bylaw No. 2525, 2023, these fees depend on who you are, what you bring and how your load is measured.
Residents pay lower rates than commercial businesses, and residential properties can take advantage of annual free solid waste coupons to waive fees. If you are a business owner, you can also set up a commercial landfill account for streamlined waste management.
At facilities equipped with scales, fees are calculated by weight, while smaller transfer stations without scales charge a flat/volume rate based on your vehicle size or number of garbage bags. Your final cost is also determined by the material type, which is categorized into regular household waste, divertible recyclables like wood and metal, controlled waste like bulky items or restricted waste like asbestos.
Sorting your load into waste type before you arrive at a facility is the best way to lower your costs as mixed or unsorted loads will be charged a fee penalty.
You can pay by cash, debit, Mastercard and Visa at landfills and waste transfer stations.
