Old Fort Update - Helicopter Activity Over the Community, Monday June 1
The Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness issued a Ministerial Order directing the Peace River Regional District to conduct a point-in-time geotechnical assessment of the slopes above the community. This assessment will provide technical information on current slope conditions. It is not a long-term monitoring program.
To support the assessment, orthoimagery (geometrically corrected aerial photographs) will be captured, and airborne LiDAR scanning will be conducted.
What is Airborne Lidar Scanning?
Lidar is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and create detailed three-dimensional models of the landscape. The data collected during the flight will support mapping, slope analysis, and assessment of ground movement.
