Old Fort Landslide Road Construction Update – May 13, 2026 11:00am
Road Construction to begin on Friday, May 15
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) will begin work on Friday to restore two-lane access to the Old Fort community. Please note the following:
- A large area surrounding the slide and road approaches on both sides will become an active MOTT construction zone. Fencing and signage is being installed to ensure worker and public safety.
- As of 06:30 a.m. Friday unauthorized access to the construction zone is prohibited.
- Heavy equipment will move tonnes of upslope material to a site south of the displaced roadway. This work is necessary for road construction and will result in the removal of the resident-built trail currently being used to access the displaced road segment. There will be no safe access across the slide area.
- Equipment will operate daily between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
- Restoration of two-way access is currently expected to take up to 10 to 14 days, depending on weather and site conditions. Estimates will be revised as work progresses. MOTT is committed to restoring safe access to the community as quickly as possible.
- Emergency Support Services (ESS) will be provided to evacuated residents until safe access to the community is restored by MOTT and the Evacuation Order can be lifted.
IF YOU HAVE REMAINED WITHIN THE COMMUNITY EVACUATION ORDER AREA:
- Any informal access through the slide area will no longer be available.
- Evacuate now. Emergency Support Services are available today at the Pomeroy Sport Centre, east lobby, second floor, today, Wednesday May 13, between 9:00am and 1:00 p.m. and again this evening between 5:00pm and 7:00 p.m.
The PRRD will continue to keep the community updated with new developments.

Stay Safe And Respect Worker Safety
As of Friday, May 15, the slide area and surrounding roadway will become an active construction zone under the control of the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT). Unauthorized access is prohibited. Entering the site creates significant safety risks for both the public and workers and will delay construction work.
