Old Fort Landslide Evacuation Order Status Update - April 21, 2026, 5pm

An Evacuation Order remains in effect for the Old Fort area due to an active landslide and ongoing risk to safety resulting from the closure of Old Fort Road by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.

There is no safe road access to or from the community.

The road has significantly shifted and is not safe for travel. There is no safe road access to or from the community. Emergency services and essential resources are currently unable to access Old Fort.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit continues to assess and monitor the situation. Their latest assessment confirms the landslide remains active, and there is no timeline available for when work can begin or when access may be restored.

This remains a rapidly evolving situation, and decisions continue to be made based on changing conditions and expert assessment.

Additional evacuated residents registered with Emergency Support Services (ESS) today and continue to receive support.

If You Remain in the Area

Residents who remain in the area are advised to:
  • Stay in a safe location
  • Avoid the landslide and surrounding debris, as the area is very dangerous
  • Be aware that conditions can change at any time
  • Conserve essential supplies
  • Be prepared for further instructions

Emergency Support Services (ESS)

Emergency Support Services are available for evacuated residents. Contact ESS at 250-263-3109.

Evacuated residents will continue to receive ESS assistance until the Evacuation Order is lifted.
