Old Fort Landslide Evacuation Order #1

The Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order #1 for the Old Fort landslide area due to immediate danger to life safety caused by active and increasing ground movement.

The Evacuation Order is in effect for properties in the following area:

  • For all properties east of, but not including, 7711 Old Fort Road 

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY!

PRRD Alerts do not affect First Nations communities on Reserve Lands or municipalities as they issue their own.

⚠️ Evacuation Access Information

A controlled evacuation window is planned for tonight from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, if conditions are safe.

This evacuation will only proceed if emergency crews and Search and Rescue are able to safely support access.

Supports and Emergency Services will not be provided for those who do not evacuate. 

What you should do:

  • Prepare to leave immediately. Be ready before 9:00 PM.

  • Take critical items (identification, credit cards, medicine, cell phone and charger, and keys) only if they are immediately available.

  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than needed.

  • Follow directions from emergency crews and Search and Rescue. Do not go near the landslide area unassisted.

  • Travel to Fort St John by the safest route for your area. Visit Drive BC for road conditions.

  • Register for Emergency Support Services (ESS) at the Reception Centre located at Location: Pomeroy Sport Centre, 9324 96 St, Fort St John, BC V1J 6J8. 

  • If you need help to meet your basic needs if evacuated, create a profile for Emergency Support Services (ESS). Creating a profile for ESS ahead of time will make it easier to access support. Once your account has been verified with BC Services, you may be eligible for Interac e-Transfer. To register for ERA, follow the steps below:
  • Step 1: Visit ess.gov.bc.ca
  • Step 2: Click ‘Create Profile’
  • Step 3: Follow the BC Services Card login and registration instructions
  • Step 4: If you’re evacuated, follow all instructions and evacuate. Follow the steps listed in your Evacuation Order
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.

  • Close and lock all windows and doors.

  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock them.

  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles than needed.

  • Take critical items (identification, credit cards, medicine, cell phone and charger, and keys) only if they are immediately available.

  • Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.

If you have tenant or household insurance, please use it first if you are able.
