PRRD invites Golata Creek residents to review options for new community space
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is engaging Golata Creek residents on six options for a new community space at 6161 Golata Creek Road. This is the final planned engagement before a possible referendum (public vote) in October 2026.
The hall, built in 1958, was closed in July 2022 due to safety concerns related to its structural integrity. Engineering assessments found that repairs would be too expensive. The PRRD Board has approved a budget of $500,000 for potentially developing a new building or recreational space, dependent on community support through a referendum (public vote).
During the last round of public engagement in spring 2025, residents expressed mixed interest on either an indoor or outdoor space but wanted more information on potential construction and operating costs. The PRRD has followed up with proposed options ranging from a simple outdoor area to a small community hall.
Input is being gathered on:
- Six options
- Estimated costs and tax impacts
- Community preferences
Public input will help determine whether the project proceeds to a referendum, where residents would vote on creating a new taxation area to fund it. Area residents are invited to engage through the following:

Leonard Hiebert engaging with residents on local priorities through community meetings
Electoral Area D Director Leonard Hiebert is inviting residents to a series of community meetings in March and April. The first three meetings happened on March 23-25 in Pouce Coupe, Kelly Lake and Cutbank. Residents are encouraged to join one of the remaining meetings for open discussions, to raise local issues, learn about regional initiatives and to help shape future priorities.
"Community meetings with residents are all about listening. I really look forward to talking with as many residents as possible about what matters most to them. Whether it’s services, community spaces, safety or something else entirely. This is an opportunity for residents to have an in-person conversation with their elected representative." – PRRD Electoral Area D Director, Leonard Hiebert
