Regional District Highlights for December 2025
Season's Greetings from Chair Sperling and Looking Ahead to
2026
On behalf of the Board of the Peace River Regional District, I want to wish everyone a joyful holiday season. We are finishing 2025 having achieved significant strategic milestones, setting the pace
for an ambitious 2026.
Key accomplishments focused on forward-looking planning and resilience:
- The Regional Growth Strategy was completed, providing a framework for future development.
- The first comprehensive review in over two decades of the regional zoning bylaw is nearing completion.
- The PRRD successfully managed the wildfire season with minimal impact.
- Support for the community was demonstrated by announcing the third phase of the Peace Villa Seniors Housing project and investigating expansion of the Seniors Aging in Place program.
Looking ahead, the Board's priorities are focused on securing regional stability and prosperity:
Economic Advocacy: The PRRD will advocate for the province to recognize the Peace region’s critical economic contributions. This includes actively supporting foundational sectors like agriculture
and forestry and pushing for stability.
Key Regional Studies: Essential studies will move forward, including Water Function Feasibility Studies (Areas C, D, E) and expanding the Senior's Aging in Place program (Areas B, C and
remainder of E).
Continued Engagement: The Board is committed to ongoing, year-round engagement with the provincial government, including following up on UBCM minister meetings to ensure Northern BC remains central to provincial priorities and receives the attention it deserves.
The PRRD's direction for 2026 is a proactive strategy to enhance the vitality and security of the entire Peace region. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year!

Project Update: Rose Prairie Water Station
At the end of November, the PRRD successfully drilled a fourth well within the vicinity of the Rose Prairie Water Station. The well exceeded flow rate expectations and the water sample tests support moving forward with further testing.
The next step is to complete a pump test to determine the well’s capacity and further analyze the water quality to determine if the water is capable of being treated with the existing water station treatment system. This work is scheduled to start in January 2026.
