Old Fort Landslide
Geotechnical Assessment Status
The Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness issued a Ministerial Order directing the PRRD to conduct a point-in-time geotechnical assessment of the slopes. This assessment will provide technical information on current slope conditions but is not a long-term monitoring program.
On June 2nd, orthoimagery (geometrically corrected aerial photographs) and airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data was captured and is being processed in advance of BGC Engineering's field work planned for the week of Monday, June 15th. Following on-site assessments, geotechnical specialists will develop a professional opinion using all the available information.
Until the professional opinion from the geotechnical engineers has been received by the PRRD and Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Emergency Support Services will continue to be available to residents who have chosen to live outside of the community.
The timeline for completing this work is not yet confirmed, the PRRD wants to be transparent that the process cannot be rushed without compromising the integrity of the assessment. We will share updates as soon as the work is complete or as new information becomes available.

Old Fort Road Status
On May 21, 2026, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (TT) completed construction of a temporary two-lane road surface across the landslide. The Ministry continues to monitor road conditions and the landslide for changes. When conditions allow the Ministry will construct a permanent two-lane road surface across the landslide.
For the latest updates from the Ministry, check the DriveBC Old Fort advisory page. If you have non-emergency questions or concerns about the temporary access road surface and future plans, contact the Ministry during office hours at 1-250‑787‑3237.
Evacuation Order and Alert Status
On May 21, 2026, the Peace River Regional District rescinded/cancelled Evacuation Order #1, replacing the evacuation order with Evacuation Alert #2 covering the area east of, but not including, 7711 Old Fort Road.
- The Evacuation Order cancellation means residents and service providers are permitted to return to the area.
- A new Evacuation Alert #2 along with Evacuation Alert #1 are in place as a precautionary measure due to the temporary nature of the current access road surface.
As the landslide related closure of Old Fort Road has now been resolved by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit re-opening this provincial roadway, the community of Old Fort is no longer isolated and the emergency situation has ended. The state of local emergency originally declared for Electoral Area C on April 20, 2026 has been cancelled effective as of 1200h (12:00 p.m.) May 21, 2026.
See the 2026 Old Fort Frequently Asked Questions document for more information on returning home.
