Making Website Text Larger

You can change the text size easily in your internet browser:

  • To make text bigger: Hold Ctrl and press the + key if you're using Windows or hold Command and press the + key if you're using a Mac-

  • To make text smaller: Hold Ctrl and press the - key if you're using Windows, or hold Command and press the - key if you're using a Mac

  • To reset to normal size: Hold Ctrl and press 0 if you're using Windows, or hold Command and press 0 if you're using a Mac

The + and - keys usually work on both your number pad and the top row of your keyboard.

Using Your Mouse

If your mouse has a scroll wheel:

  • Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) and scroll up to zoom in and make the text larger

  • Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) and scroll down to zoom out and make the text smaller

This way, you can quickly adjust text size without even opening any menus.

Changing Your Default Font Size

The shortcuts above are temporary. If you always want larger text, you can change your browser's default settings to ensure you always have the text size that you prefer.

To change the default text size in Google Chrome:

  1. Click the 3-dot menu → "Settings"

  2. Select "Appearance" on the left

  3. Under "Font size", choose from:

    • Very small

    • Small

    • Medium (default)

    • Large

    • Very large

  4. For more control, select "Customize fonts" to set specific sizes for:

    • Standard font

    • Serif font

    • Sans-serif font

    • Fixed-width font

To change the default text size in Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the 3-dot menu → "Settings"

  2. Select "Appearance" on the left

  3. Under "Fonts", you can:

    • Set default font size

    • Choose font family

    • Adjust minimum font size

For zoom settings, you can go to "Default zoom" to set a permanent zoom level.

To change the default text size in Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Click the 3-line menu → "Settings"

  2. Select "General" tab

  3. Under "Language and Appearance", find "Fonts and Colors"

  4. Click "Advanced" to set:

    • Default font size (16 by default)

    • Minimum font size (useful to prevent tiny text)

  5. Uncheck "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" for full control

To change the default text size in Safari:

  1. Click "Safari" in menu bar → "Preferences"

  2. Go to "Advanced" tab

  3. Check "Never use font sizes smaller than" and set your minimum

 

For default zoom:

  • Go to "View" menu → "Zoom In/Out"

  • Or set default page zoom in Preferences → "Advanced" → "Page zoom"

 

To change the default text size in Opera:

  1. Click the Opera logo → "Settings" → "Appearance"

  2. Under "Font size", choose from small to very large

For advanced settings, click "Advanced font settings" to customize:

  • Standard font

  • Serif font

  • Sans-serif font

  • Fixed-width font
