Development Permits

If your land is in a development permit area within the Peace River Regional District, you must get a development permit before clearing or subdividing the land or starting construction, additions or changes to any buildings or structures. We have set up development permit areas to achieve a few goals, including:

  • Protecting the environment and wildlife
  • Protecting farmland
  • Protecting development from hazardous conditions
  • Design of commercial and industrial development

How to Apply

Before beginning a development, please contact a planner to make sure your proposal follows regulations or needs an application. Make sure to refer to the Lakeshore Guidelines when considering a development close to a lake.

Geohazard Assessment of the Old Fort Area

The Peace River Regional District retained Tetra Tech Canada Ltd. (Tetra Tech) to assess geohazard and flooding potential near Old Fort, British Columbia. This assessment was in response to a large slope failure that occurred in the area in September and October of 2018.

The complete report is accessible online and informs permitting decisions under the North Peace Fringe Area Official Community Plan.

Contaminated Site Remediation

If you're applying for rezoning, a development permit or a building permit, you must complete a Contaminated Site Declaration. Depending on your application you may need to contact planning staff, who may ask you to fill out a Site Disclosure Statement.
