Health Care

The Peace River Regional Hospital District (PRRHD) provides essential support for communities by helping fund and plan health care services and facilities within the Peace River Regional District. This includes areas like:

  • Digital health
  • Hospital services
  • Mental health and substance use
  • Indigenous health
  • Environmental health
  • Palliative care
  • Home and community care
  • Community care facility licensing
  • Healthy living in communities

The PRRHD covers the local share of around 40% of costs for building, buying or maintaining hospitals and major medical equipment in the region. These costs are shared with health authorities, following rules set by the government. Under provincial law, regional districts are designated as RHDs to raise funds for these projects. The PRRHD board is made up of local leaders, including city councillors and regional representatives, from the corresponding regional district.

PRRD-Funded Health Care Services

The remaining costs are shared with health authorities according to legal guidelines. The PRRHD board consists of municipal and electoral area directors from the regional district, and it also participates in regional health care planning.
