Regional District Highlights for October 2025
PRRD Hosting 15 Open Houses to Engage with Residents on the New Regional Zoning Bylaw Draft
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is inviting the public to provide input on the draft Regional Zoning Bylaw at a series of open houses across the region. The new bylaw will simplify and update how land can be used to better support local people, farmers and businesses.
The draft bylaw includes clearer zoning definitions, new zones, larger accessory building sizes, clearer regulations for home-based businesses, more types and increased number of dwelling units and more. At the open houses, residents can see the new draft bylaw, look at zoning maps, ask questions and share comments with the project team.

Charlie Lake Sewer East Side Capital Improvement Plan
The Regional Board approved the East Side Capital Improvement Plan for use in operational and capital financial planning for the Charlie Lake Sewer system. The plan outlines future capital works, including a regional lift station and twinning approximately 2,000 meters of the sewer line.
PRRD Looking Into Seniors Aging in Place Extension
The Regional Board authorized staff to investigate the feasibility of expanding the Seniors Aging In Place (SAIP) Program into Electoral Area B, Electoral Area C and the remainder of Electoral Area E. Currently, the program is offered in Electoral Area D and parts of Area E. SAIP helps seniors to stay in their homes comfortably by providing meals, housekeeping and snow removal. PRRD staff are now working on a report and will bring it forward to the Board for further review in 2025.
Project Update: Jackfish Community Hall
The PRRD has been talking with Jackfish residents about the future of their Community Hall, a building that needs repairs to stay safe and usable. Through engagement done in September 2025, people showed strong support for fixing the hall, with over 82 percent of survey respondents wanting repairs. Respondents
are also mostly open to using tax dollars to cover the hall's daily costs and upkeep; about 92 percent are either willing to contribute or might be, depending on the price.
To figure out what work is needed, a full assessment of the hall's structure and systems has been recommended. This study will check the current condition, estimate repair costs and look at how the community can afford to keep the hall going. The Regional Board will vote on this recommendation on November 6. Once the assessment results are ready, the community will be asked again for their input to decide the project's next steps.
