PRRD Dissolves North Peace Leisure Facility Replacement Steering Committee (NPLFRSC) and Transfers Project Groundwork to City of Fort St. John
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has dissolved the North Peace Leisure Facility Replacement Steering Committee (NPLFRSC). All groundwork including planning, feasibility studies and community consultation to date will be transferred to the City of Fort St. John. The city will continue efforts to replace the North Peace Leisure Pool with a new aquatic facility and other possible recreational amenities.
“We’ve worked collaboratively with the City of Fort St. John and District of Taylor for several years on this project,” said Leonard Hiebert, Board Chair of the PRRD. “The groundwork that has already been completed provides a solid foundation for the municipality to build on. The PRRD will share all project information with the city in the best interest of the community and the region.”
Background
The North Peace Leisure Pool is owned by the PRRD and operated by the city of Fort St. John. Since 2018, the PRRD, City of Fort St. John and District of Taylor have worked together on options for the replacement of the aging facility. As a result, extensive groundwork has been completed on the project. The groundwork includes public engagement, cost estimations, taxation impact and design options.
