Wastewater and Sewer

The proper collection and disposal of wastewater and sewage is a key part of health protection and disease prevention in the Peace River Regional District.

Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater Treatment is how we clean used water through settling processes like lagoons and is often combined with filtration and disinfection.

There are three wastewater treatment lagoon systems that we run:

  • Charlie Lake with a treatment lagoon system with aeration and an onsite truck receiving facility
  • Kelly Lake with a treatment lagoon system with a constructed treatment wetland
  • Rolla with a treatment lagoon system with aeration

Wastewater Collection

Our wastewater collection is an underground pipe system that directs the wastewater to pump stations and then to lagoons or treatment plants.

We provide wastewater collection in the following locations:

  • Charlie Lake using a pressurized system with pump station
  • Kelly Lake using a combination of gravity and pumping to lagoons
  • Rolla using a combination gravity and pumping to lagoons
  • North Peace Airport Subdivision using gravity and pumping to the City of Fort St John lagoons
  • Chilton using a combination of gravity and pumping to City of Dawson Creek lagoons
  • Friesen using gravity to City of Dawson Creek lagoons
  • Harper/Imperial with a combination of gravity and pressurized systems with pumping to City of Dawson Creek lagoons

Charlie Lake Wastewater Treatment and Collection System

The Charlie Lake system is the largest wastewater treatment and collection system we manage. Any new hook-ups to this system within the established service area will impact subdivision charges. The Charlie Lake Development Cost Charge bylaw was created to recover the costs of upgrading the sewer infrastructure. This charge applies to new connections in the area. You can view the Development Cost Charges Bylaw to learn about the associated costs and more.
