Follow these guidelines to safely dispose of hazardous materials:

Materials with Lead

If your material with lead has paint chips and material with chemical residue or has leachable toxic waste more than 5mg/L, you must get a licensed transport to bring it to an authorized hazardous waste facility. Please note that if the quantity is more than 500kg, you will need to get or update the site BCG number. If the material is metal and does not fit the rules above, please bring it to a landfill or recycling depot.

Asbestos Containing Materials

If you would like to dispose of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) at any PRRD landfill, you must email us at least 24 hours in advance between 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. If you fail to submit the required information, we will not accept the load for disposal. Make sure that you handle all ACM as per the Government of British Columbia’s Guide to Managing Waste Asbestos. Thank you for ensuring the proper disposal of ACM and adhering to these guidelines.

Carcasses with Specified Risk Materials

We accept carcasses with Specified Risk Materials (SRM) at the Bessborough Landfill only. You must have a CFIA SRM Transporters Permit, which details the waste generator, origin and description of the waste when arriving at the landfill. You must notify the landfill operator in advance to allow proper site preparation. To protect public safety, we dispose of all SRM in a designated area that is away from the active face of the landfill. For more information on SRM disposal procedures, please email us. Thank you for ensuring the proper disposal of SRM and adhering to these guidelines.

Lead Acid Batteries

We make it easy for you to recycle your lead-acid batteries at all of our landfills and tier 1 transfer stations. Bring your used batteries to any of these locations to ensure they are safely recycled. Recycling lead-acid batteries is essential for environmental safety and resource recovery. These batteries, found in vehicles and other equipment, contain materials that can be harmful if you do not dispose of them properly. Thank you for ensuring the proper disposal of lead-acid batteries and adhering to these guidelines.
