Volunteer Emergency Services
In the Peace River Regional District, Search and Rescue teams and Emergency Support Services provide swift aid during an emergency. These teams work together to help keep our communities safe and ready for any situation. These organizations are run by dedicated volunteers. You can reach out to learn more about their work or find out how to get involved and make a difference in your community.
Search and Rescue
Volunteer search and rescue teams are available to assist with Ground Search and Rescue operations in the Region when officially requested. Search and Rescue is a provincially ran program under the authority of the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness. All team members are trained in search and rescue operations, with some specializing in advanced disciplines such as rope rescue, tracking, swiftwater and ice rescue, and Helicopter External Transportation System (HETS). You can visit the BC Search and Rescue Association to learn more.
To request search and rescue, please contact the appropriate enforcement and tasking agency, which would make a formal request to a Search and Rescue team.
Emergency Support Services
Emergency Support Services (ESS) provide short-term assistance to British Columbians who must leave their homes because of fire, floods, earthquakes or other emergencies. Their help includes food, lodging, clothing, emotional support and family reunification.
