Holiday closure for Victoria Day

The PRRD offices will be closed on Monday, May 20 for Victoria Day.

A few important reminders as we all head into the long weekend:

  • Category 2 and 3 open burning is prohibited across the region, this includes: fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description and binary exploding targets.
  • Category 1 (campfires that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller, or the use of cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes) are not prohibited.
  • Given the extreme fire conditions in the region, please exercise extreme caution with any campfire activity; never leave campfires unattended and completely extinguish them so ashes are cool to the touch before leaving a site.
  • Avoid having a campfire when it’s windy.

Please note that fire centre bans and restrictions are under the authority of, and set by, the BC Wildfire Service, not the Peace River Regional District.

One of our core values at the Peace River Regional District is respect, as we believe that consideration should be shown to everyone equally and without discrimination.

Doig River Wildfire Information Update

The Doig River Wildfire Evacuation Alerts #1 and Alert #2 and Evacuation Order # 1 were made at the recommendation of BC Wildfire Service. These measures are crucial for facilitating effective fire suppression efforts and ensuring the safety of residents and firefighters working to control the situation.

We understand the stress and uncertainty caused by these alerts and orders. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of everyone affected. The safety of our residents is our top priority. We are working closely with BC Wildfire Service to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

Currently:

  • 32 addresses are under evacuation alerts and are in Electoral Area B.
  • Currently no addresses are included in the evacuation order for Electoral Area B.
  • These alerts and this order for Doig River Wildfire in Electoral Area B are separate from the Doig River First Nation evacuation that is currently in place.
  • These alerts and this order do not affect First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

For more information, please visit our website at the Peace River Regional District and the BC Wildfires Official Page for updates about fires and evacuations.
